Flooded

Writing Prompt
Write a post inspired by the word:
Flooded
 Flooded.
    Gone in an instant
        As the damage rushes in.
    Water,
           Thirst-quenching
                Life-giving molecule
Turned
     Powerful destroyer.
It spares no mercy
     Has no favoritism.
Simply flows through and into
      Every crack of existence
Claiming all that is.
    A lifetime built
Gone in a heartbeat of power.

Flooded.
   Emotions rush in,
Ripping, tearing, searing
    As the devastation is seen.
Uncomprehended
      Barely grasped.
Chaotic rubble
Of that which was once beauty and love and life.

Flooded
With the realization of what remains
        Is what matters most.
Life, family, love.
Seeing America still has pure beauty,
       Even in the ugly
As her citizens rally and shoulder the grief
And weep for and weep with
    Neighbors and strangers.

Flooded
    Never again the same.
Never again to reclaim what was.
A new normal,
     A new life

          A new heart.
For the old can not remain
When the old has been ravaged.
 New will blossom forth
     In pain, but
Accompanied with a beauty unknown before
Because of that which was purged as it was destroyed

Flooded.
    Destruction ~ Restoration
          Wounding ~ Healing
                Ugliness ~ Beauty
                     Death ~ Life
                            Devastation ~ Hope
