While the Lovelaces can provide Scripture to back up this was practiced in both the Old and New Testament times, my own reading of these Scriptures indicated a cultural way of doing things and not a Scriptural mandate. The authors however, are pretty clear that this is not a mandate, and instead, present their material as a decision they chose for their family and as a catalyst for family discussion and examination. I appreciated (greatly) the fact they were not dogmatic, but instead, urged again and again, the reader to research and discuss and come to their own conclusions on the matter.
Their chapters include everything from the initial premise to pointers and preparations for making this corporate family worship take place, to possible conflicts and supplies that parents can pack for a service to keep their children occupied.
It's a wonderful discussion starter and really stirred my own thinking a a mother, in regards to how our family approaches church. In the end, my conclusion was not the author's conclusion but if I had a church that was geared towards this type of worship, I would adopt it without a second thought.
We give Children in Church: Nurturing Hearts of Worship an overall rating of 4 out of 5 if for anything, it is a book to make you think and reason through why your family does church the way it does.
