We had one of those perfect rainy days over the weekend.
The kind that just sort of gives you permission to stay in cozy flannel pants and sweatshirts and not really do anything productive. The sort of day that calls for lots of cuddles and snuggles and warm baked goods.
After a slow morning of breakfast and devotions and Bible story time with miraclegirl, it was time to dip into our big library bag that we had filled the day before. We read and read and read, snuggled together on the couch, with the rain falling on the windows beside us.
Then we had to do something a little more active. So while I raided our deep chest freezer and pulled out last year's frozen goods to make way for this year's frozen goods, Daddy did some school with miraclegirl.
We really aren't cruel task-master parents. She actually enjoys this sort of stuff, even at the age of 2 1/2. Daddy though. . .not so much! He's never been a school person. But I love him for stepping out and doing it with her when he'd rather be playing big blocks or taking her swimming.
Then, it was baking time.
We made a strawberry-rhubarb pie for my man.
And vanilla and chocolate, chocolate chip zucchini muffins for all of us.
Miraclegirl was a great help and very strongly informed me as the muffins went into the oven that the "white muffins were for me and Daddy but she would have the chocolate muffins". She is her mother's daughter! :)
We ate our warm muffins while snuggling down again to a Winnie the Pooh video and then, it was time for me to get ready for my date with my man!
We settled miraclegirl in at Grandma and Grandpa's and found ourselves at Panera bread which has become my first -- and only, so far-- pregnancy craving. Turkey/artichoke panini! I've had 5 in two weeks and each one tastes just as good as the last.
We then went and did some shopping for some friends who are expecting a baby at one store, and then shopped for some other friends who just lost a baby, at another store. Such a dichotomy of experiences. :-( Thrilled for one couple, broken for another.
My day ended up with me feeling pretty sick again, so we picked up our girl and headed home and to an early bedtime.
It was such a simple, yet full day and just so perfect (minus morning sickness of course) in every way.
Hoping today is blessed for you!
Melissa
