The Diet Cure

When people ask me what book I use for my lifestyle, I always reply, The Diet Cure. That is the book that started me on my path several years ago though my library has expanded since then. Those books, I will be highlighting in coming weeks but for now, I'll start with the one that began it all for me, even before I was committed to this way of life.

The Diet Cure talks about both diet and the role amino acids play in our health. Now, I need to insert a disclaimer here. I have entered into some discussions, and at times, hot debates over amino acid supplements. Some people have serious reservations about them, although when I attempt to google words like, "are amino acids bad for you?" or "the negative effects of amino acids" I can find very little. Still, I want to throw that out there, so that you know that some people have a little "Um. . . " when they hear about this book.

Moving on.

The Diet Cure begins with a comprehensive "test" in which you can add up your scores and discover what some of your major underlying issues may be - -which then has correlating chapters in how to rectify those issues.

One of the things I appreciate about this book, is that it encourages readers to enlist the help of their medical Dr while attempting to follow the plans laid out in this book, rather than negating the role medical Dr's may play with certain health issues. In fact, at times throughout the book, they state that one should not self-diagnosis certain medical issues (such as over worked adrenal glands) but instead, seek out a medically based test for it.

The sections of the book are as follows:

Part 1: Identifying the Eight Imbalances

Chapter 1. Depleted Brain Chemistry: The Real Story Behind Emotional Eating

Chapter 2. Malnutrition Due to Low-Calorie Dieting: the Number One Cause of Overeating, Weight Gain, Bulimia, and Anorexia.

Chapter 3. Unstable Blood Sugar: Carbohydrate Addiction, Hypoglycemia, Diabetes, and Adrenal Exhaustion

Chapter 4. Unrecognized Low Thyroid Function: Tired, Cold, and Overweight

Chapter 5. Food Addcitions and Allergic Reactions: The Three Culprits

Chapter 6. Hormonal Havoc: PMS, Menopause, and the Food-Mood Connection

Chapter 7. Yeast Overgrowth: A Hidden Cause of Food Cravings

Chapter 8. Fatty Acid Deficiency: why You Can't Stop Eating Chips, Cheese, and Fries

Part Two: Correcting Your Imbalances

Chapter 9: Refueling Your Brain Chemistry with Amino Acids

Chapter 10: Nutritional Rehab for the Ex-Dieter

Chapter 11: Balancing Your Blood Sugar

Chapter 12: Thyroid Solutions

Chapter 13: Overcoming Addictions to Allergy Foods

Chapter 14: Hormone Help

Chapter 15: Repairing the Damage Caused by Yeasts

Chapter 16: The Fatty Acid Fix

Part 3: Your Master Plan for the Diet Cure

Chapter 17: Your Master Nutritional Supplement Plan

Chapter 18: Your Master Nurtritional Supplement Plan

Chapter 19: The Best Foods for Your Special Biochemistry: Your Master Eating Plan

Chapter 20: Shopping for Your Master Plan Supplies and Planning Your Meals

Chapter 21: Menus, Meal Idea, and Recipes

Chapter 22: Essential Support: Exercise, Relaxation, Counseling, and Health Care Resources

Chapter 23: Your Master Plan in Action: The Diet Cure from Day 1 to Week 12

I would say, although the book highlights amino acids and supplements, that is not the main goal of the book. The main goal of The Diet Cure is teaching the reader how to detox their body and eat proper foods to such a point that vitamin, amino acid, and herbal supplements aren't even that necessary.

That is commendable. Way too many systems rely on having to buy expensive powders, pills, and teas, so to have a book who's entire premise is, "if you can detox, get your body on track, and stick with the right kind of eating" you won't need to rely on those things, is wonderful! Lifestyle is so much more than pills and powders - The Diet Cure teaches about that lifestyle.

I have never read the following book, but based on my man conversations with those who loved The Diet Cure, you may also be interested in the companion volume ,
